Our Tuscan Mini-Moon

Woman in white stands smiling in a sunny, dry landscape with rolling hills and a clear blue sky. A relaxed, cheerful mood prevails.

After the best week in Puglia, we extended our wedding leave to spend a few nights in Tuscany for our mini-moon. We will be going to SE Asia for our actual honeymoon, but wanted to squeeze in this trip before heading back to real life. Post-wedding blues are real!

Firenze

Couple smiling with Florence skyline at sunset. Dome and tower visible. Palm silhouette, orange clouds create a serene atmosphere.

We kicked off our Tuscan adventure by spending 3 days in Firenze with my parents and sister before they continued onto Spain. From Brindisi, we all flew into Pisa and spent the morning there before taking the train to Florence! We love Florence, so it was a pleasure to show them Mario's favorite Italian city. Our Airbnb actually had its own rooftop where we could see the Duomo! It was the perfect way to kick off our Tuscan holiday.

Montepulciano

Brick building overlooks rolling hills; Open window view of fields; Person at pool's edge; Cypress trees in the backdrop; Calm mood.
Collage: Scenic bench view, indoor liquor cabinet with framed painting, person walking by mansion, person taking mirror selfie indoors.
Moonlit night between brick buildings, cloudy sky, and illuminated stone archway. Moody atmosphere with green shutters visible.

We chose Montepulciano as our base, and we couldn't have been happier with that decision. We were able to relax, unwind, and enjoy the Tuscan countryside. It was exactly what we needed to come down from the wedding high.

From Florence, we took the train back to Pisa and picked up our rental car from the airport. I have always dreamed of seeing Tuscany ever since watching Letters to Juliet, so being there with my husband was so special. After a two-hour drive, we reached our destination and were greeted by the cutest villa dogs upon our arrival.

We stayed at Villa Poggiano for 4 nights. We were spoiled by great service, idyllic views, and Montepulciano wine. We hope to return in the next couple of years - ideally in the summer! It was mid-September, which can either be hot or not so hot. We got hit with autumnal temperatures, so we definitely needed to shop for warmer clothes. Regardless, we still made the most of our stay and had so much fun.

The villa was located right outside Montepulciano, so we would drive into town every night for dinner. Located on a hilltop, Montepulciano was my favorite Tuscan town. I loved walking around and getting lost amongst the alleyways. But a letter to the wise, wear flat shoes and be prepared to hike a lot of hills.

Siena

Two people in a scenic landscape with tall cypress trees. The first person in blue shirt, the second in white dress, both looking back.
Two images of an Italian piazza: left shows a tall brick tower and people on a square; right shows narrow streets with old buildings. Sky is clear.

With the one sunny day in the forecast, we decided to make a day trip out to Siena. On the drive from Montepulciano, we passed so many cypress trees, vineyards, and the picturesque golden hills. It was a literal dream and I feel so lucky to be able to see all these beautiful places myself!

We spent an afternoon exploring Siena and I couldn't stop telling Mario how happy I was. We were living in our very own rom-com, which to be honest is how I've felt since the moment I met him.

Pienza

Collage of Tuscan scenes: a man with a red umbrella, a woman smiling by a wall, rustic buildings, and rolling hills under a cloudy sky.

The other Tuscan town we got to visit and that I fell in love with was Pienza.

We visited on a late and cold rainy afternoon, but the charm of Pienza shined through. I realized that Tuscany is what I always pictured when I thought of Italy. Of course, I know that there is so much more to Italy. And now that I am married to my own beautiful Italian boy, I hope to explore even more of his gorgeous country.

Tuscany was everything and more. We will be back!
